The Green Mountains
Links/Back

The Green Mountains form the border of several lands - Cadwyr to the west, Urdur to the north west, and the very southern finger of Maelgwenn. Named for the evergreens that dominate the peaks, the Green Mountains are a partly-tamed offshoot of the Dark Wood, and the last home of the Wolf King.
Perhaps the two most impressive aspects of the Green Mountains are the Falcon's Folly and the Triton's Bridge.
Rearing several miles high, the Falcon's Folly looms over the land, like that majestic bird itself. It is so high and steep no man can climb it, but the brown striped falcons make the peak their home.
A few miles south of the Falcon's Folly is the Triton's Bridge which connects the lands of Maelgwenn and Cadwyr. The bottom of the bridge is lined with gold so thin and polished that it reflects the waters rushing beneath. Supporting the bridge are statues of the four Wydoemi, water elemental, sovereigns - the brothers Yure, Lord of Frost, and Ydulhain, Lord of Waterfalls, with their brides Sylenn, Lady of Rains and Sylvaenn, Lady of the Deeps. The bridge itself is made from the white Andamariana marble, mined by the Dwarves of Malinka, and named after the Queen of the Stars. On the eastward side of the bridge, guarding the entrance, are statues of the Pyrumn (fire elemental) Baone, Lord of Light, and Sylenn once more. Westward, the Vertumn (earth elemental) Hintev, Lord of Winter, ever pursues the Wydoema (wind elemental) Voro, Lady of Tempests, also known as the Untamable (see left, click to enlarge).
But most fearsome of all, the Wolf King makes his home in the Green Mountains, as he has always done, even when he lived in his shadow keep, before Deirdre defeated him.
