Aldhairen

Links/Back

Named after the eldest of the Fairies, Aldhairen is bordered on the north by the Ice Floes and the Northern Falls; on the east by Urdur and the Wandering River, the Camboglais as well as by Cadwyr; to the south by Islendil and to the west by the Edge of the World.

At this westernmost edge, lies the Well at the End of the World, where Ostrung the Giant, still sits sentinel, ever looking westward after his gvennik ljuv. Ostrung has turned to stone now, as have all the Giants, but his form is still reconizable to those who know how to truly see.

Between the lands of Aldhairen and Islendil are the Spires of Sunset. Here the King and Queen of the Fairies make their home, with the broad Foaming Fall ever between them. Bridges span the swirling water, and steps spiral both within and without, while eternal flames are kept burning in the watchtowers.

Notable families living in Aldhairen include the members of Yew Hall, who have refused official nobility or stewardship in the court of the Fairies. They are a quiet people, apt to unconventionality and free-thinking.

Their neighbors to the north are the Lords of Ainsidhe, the greatest of whom is Deirdre who defeated the Wolf King with his own Shadowblade. The Count from Niamh and the Hermt is also a descendant of this line.

North and east of Ainsidhe are the Lords of Eyre, an ancient line long associated with the blue-breasted, white-capped eagles. The Lords of Eyre have promised alliegance to the Wydoemi - the wind elementals - whose court gathers in the northern realms.
