Ydulhain

The Lord of the Waterfalls
appeared quite fully in my mind early on. He is a forceful personality, full of storms and lowered brows, his beard running into the foaming river, his face never quite the same.

To illustrate him, I simply sketched him as though I had done so a thousand times before. That left only the necessity of scanning him onto disc and "stamping" him.

Actually, just like with Elowen, I found that greyscaling the picture and then using the brightness/contrast tool worked best to "stamp." In this case, the original sketch had enough contrast that I did not need to select individual parts. I then blacked the background and added the border to make it resemble the rest of the illustrations.

Other incarnations
still exist of Ydulhain. The first one (1) is the original sketch in greyscale pencil. I prefer it to the b/w simply because shading always makes a thing look a bit more round. The second (2) is just a bit of fun I had one day, based off a picture of an actual waterfall, as well as some trees I had a picture of and - see that poor attempt at a girl down there? That's based off me and is hideous, but as I said, it's all a bit of fun. After compiling/manipulating/smudging/recoloring the picture, I used the cutout function on Adobe Photoshop Elements.
