The Shield
by
Kevin Carl

A rusty shield, forgotten in a corner,
Can tell stories of deeds that tore the world asunder.
A glorious battle, acts heroic and valorous,
Scratched the paint of this shield inconspicuous.

No more, though, can it tell
Of the stories, for his master fell.
Heaped in a pile of broken armor,
The shield was forgotten, forever.

But the shield can remember
Deeds that tore the world asunder,
And will tell them readily for you,
If you take it and listen carefully all the night through.
