I dreamt last night
That I slept against your chest;
I could feel your heart
Beat against my cheek –
And with every breath you took,
I heard you whisper,

“Ah, love, love, in my love
I am drowning!”

Penelope I dreamt last night
Oh, pray God it was a dream!
Had I lost your heart
To the bounding sea?
Would I wake and find you here –
Or a mere whisper,

“Ah, love, love, in my love
I am drowning!”

I dreamt last night
That I clung to you and wept,
But my tears were drops
In the siren sea
And my words were lost whenever
You would whisper,
“Ah, love, love, in my love
I am drowning!”

I dreamt last night
That awaking from my dream
I searched about,
I found you not –
But the tears of futile love,
With you I whisper,
“Ah, love, love, in my love
I am drowning!”

The End
