Eltoso and the Dragon
By Marco McAndrew

When Eltoso the wizard approached the dragon Fang, a circle of light fell upon him (the dragon) and stirred him in his slumber. Eltoso stopped in hesitation, and then kept going. He was so close to getting the magic ruby back, he couldn’t turn around now.

The ruby was hidden under one scale on Fang’s “ring finger.” But he had no idea which one! So he used his magic to “look” under each scale. Unfortunately it was by Fang’s MOUTH! Then he had an inspiration. He dodged under Fang’s head so Fang couldn’t bite him.

Eltoso ran and grabbed for where the ruby was, but only got the scale above it. (He accidently tickled Fang in the process.) Right after Eltoso got out from under Fang, the dragon woke up and turned red (scales and all) except his eyes. When he figured out what had happened, Fang rose to his feet and let out a mighty roar.

Eltoso thought of only one thing to do. He dodged into a crevice and again used his magic to pinpoint the ruby. Once he was sure he knew where it was, he made a blinding flash with his sword. When Fang was temporarily blinded, Eltoso ran, grabbed the ruby, and escaped. When Eltoso took the ruby from Fang, the dragon flashed with color.

Eltoso now wondered how he was going to hide from Fang. So once he saw the edge of a forest, he ran forward and camouflaged himself, so he looked like a tree. When he was sure Fang had settled down he headed towards the city of elves. Who knows what adventures lie ahead!
