It's April 2002. Do you know where your light saber is?

One month, just one more month! Star Wars fans old and new are quivering with ill-concealed anticipation for the coming of Episode II: Attack of the Clones. I join those willing to elbow through the massing hordes and fight for a decent seat when this film debuts.

However, this feeling of excitement is bittersweet. This is Episode II. Another two years, and the series will be complete. What then? Is there life after Star Wars?

I don't imagine they'll add on to the series. How could they? I have been under the illusion that after Luke Skywalker, the Galaxy was a perfect place. Any sequel written would need a hero. Every hero needs an antagonist, and a villain means an imperfect place. Would George Lucas dash away my dreams, and the dreams of every other Star Wars fan, by creating a sequel to Return of the Jedi? I think not. There is also only so far one can delve into the past. A movie about the forming of the Jedi might be exciting, but, well, we already know their outcome.

No, I have decided that the only choice is to turn to television programs and self-help books. Obi Wan Kenobis' Guide to Being a Hermit: Gardening and Cooking [published by Wookie Press]. Or how about Yoda's exercise routine? Become the Ultimate Jedi. And don't forget that hilarious new sit-com, Jabba the Hutt Meets the Sopranos.

Maybe there is life after Star Wars, but I'm having a hard time imagining it.
