A Christmas Carol marked a departure for the Hudson Catholic High School Drama Society. It was a time of new beginnings: the old guard of Twelfth Night, Brigadoon, and A Midsummer Night's Dream had graduated, paving the way for the next generation. Because of their work, that generation was more than prepared to tackle two shows a year, beginning with the first Christmas play - naturally, A Christmas Carol.
Of course, we had no idea if HCH Drama could support two shows a year. More, we had just lost our performance space due to the closing of St. Mary's parish. Even more, because the new cast was made up of largely "green" actors, there was no assurance that we would have someone who could pull of the role of Scrooge! However, our fears were needless. The actors who stepped up to the plate to perform in A Christmas Carol were enthusiastic and familial, bonding immediately with each other - even across age boundaries (Saint Michael's elementary and middle school students were included in the cast)! A space was found for us at Hudson Town Hall, perfectly aligning with the annual town stroll. And best of all, Matt Wiedeman blew everyone away from day one of auditions through to the final bows as the perfect Scrooge.
