Welcome back!

To anyone who has visited these pages over these past four years, you may have wondered where, how, why and when this page fell off the face of the updated earth and into the well of forgotten pages.

The short answer is that the owner of this site left her desk job, became a theology teacher by day and a director by night and simply had no more time to maintain an increasingly difficult to maintain site.

The longer answer lies in the very nature of this site and why it's so difficult to maintain. However, we'll offer a few reasons for your consumption:

  • Essentially, one person runs this site, although the webboard is monitored by other folk now. It's a big job for a little person - hence these pages are frozen with only occasional updates.

  • Moreover, books are far more difficult, time-consuming and expensive to review than, say, a movie review site. Whereas with a movie, one is assured that the actual viewing of the material will take about two hours, reading a book thoroughly for a review may take anywhere from a few days to never - depending on the quality of the book. Which leads me to...

  • "Doth not the appetite alter? A man hates the meat that he loves in his youth!" (Badly paraphrased from Benedick's speech in Much Ado About Nothing.) Essentially, a mere seven years ago, fantasy was a far more interesting genre to me than it is now. This is partially because I've become something of a literary snob: if it's badly written literature, I simply cannot stomach it. The other partially bit is that the current quality of fantasy seems to be in something of a lull. It happens. Good genre fiction comes and goes in waves. It seems we've hit a bit of a low-tide. Which leads me to...

  • Not only does time have this funny habit of altering taste, but also lives and interests. I'm afraid that, in this literary lull, I've simply become more drawn (read: vocation!) to the theatre rather than the bookshelves. Mea culpe mea culpe!

However, the good news is that there are several other sites with reviews of Fantasy from a Christian perspective. Refracted Light is the best that I've found thus far. And, naturally, there is always the blogsphere!

So how long will this updating last? Alas, not particularly long. As of this date, I am returning for my Masters at Emerson College in Theatre Education and from there I've got my eyes on a Ph.D. Lots of writing, but not here. Howsomever, please do contribute on the boards and feel free to cruise around this site!

    God bless!
